Contact general information
Please read the following before emailing me. If any of the below apply to you and you still email me, please include ``[I read the contact page]’’ in th subject line of your email.
Prospective PhD applicants
I am an ORIE/CS/IS field member and so can be primary advisor to PhD students in those departments. My ideal student has strong technical skills (whether theoretical or empirical) and is excited to use them to study societal systems.
If you have not yet been admitted, apply to one of the above departments and note my name in your application materials. Feel free to email me to introduce yourself, but please do not ask me to review your application materials or CV; I cannot respond to all email inquiries.
Note: I am unlikely to admit PhD students as primary advisor for the 2025-2026 admissions cycle.
Cornell undergraduate and Master’s students
If you are an undergraduate student at Cornell, I often host students during the summer through paid research internship opportunities such as ELI and BURE – please look into your department’s opportunities. These typically open up in the beginning of the Spring semester. These can be either virtual or in person in New York City.
During the academic year, my group often works with Cornell/Cornell Tech undergraduate and Master’s students for course credit, such as thesis projects, independent study, or spec projects.
If you are interested in working with my group, please fill out the following form and send me a brief email: https://forms.gle/TnFAt62SPsVBHyBz7. We typically go through applications several months before the start of the semester (late July/August for Fall semester; late November/December for Spring semester).
Unfortunately, we cannot host all applicants; we typically look for a match between a current PhD student researcher and the applicant’s interests.
Postdoctoral applicants
While I do not currently have postdoc positions available, potential applicants may be interested in the following Cornell programs, through which I can be a mentor/collaborator: Center for Data Science for Enterprise and Society, Cornell Tech Runway Startup Postdoc Program, and Digital Life Initiative.
Feel free to email me asking if I currently have positions available; but please note that I cannot respond to all email inquiries.
High school interns; virtual unpaid interns outside of Cornell
I generally do not host high school interns or virtual unpaid interns outside of Cornell, and cannot currently provide paid opportunities for these roles.
